At Freie Universität Berlin, the Blackboard learning platform provided by FUB-IT will be replaced by Learn@FU based on Moodle, an open-source platform. The transition to the new LMS is scheduled for the 2026/2027 winter semester. Here you will find the most important information and updates regarding the switch.

Please pay particular attention to the following two dates:

  • As of January 1, 2027, you will only be able to access Blackboard in “read only” mode.
  • As of March 15, 2027, you will no longer be able to access Blackboard at all (end of license).
Until the end of the 2026 summer semester, you will be able to continue to use Blackboard with no restrictions.
Beginning June 17 2026, instructors and employees can become familiar with Learn@FU (based on Moodle) as part of the pilot phase of the new platform. You can access Learn@FU now and transfer course materials from Blackboard to Learn@FU if needed.
