At Freie Universität Berlin, the Blackboard learning platform provided by FUB-IT will be replaced by Moodle, an open-source platform. The transition to the new LMS is scheduled for the 2026/2027 winter semester. Here you will find the most important information and updates regarding the switch.

Please pay particular attention to the following two dates:

• As of January 1, 2027, you will only be able to access Blackboard in “read only” mode.
• As of March 15, 2027, you will no longer be able to access Blackboard at all (end of license).

Until the end of the 2026 summer semester, you will be able to continue to use Blackboard with no restrictions. During the 2026 summer semester, instructors and employees will also be able to try out Moodle as part of the pilot phase of the new platform as it is rolled out. This will give instructors and employees the chance to begin transferring course materials from Blackboard to Moodle. We will let you know as soon as everything is ready and you can access the new learning platform.
