Transition Schedule

On this page, you will find the schedule (as of June 17, 2026) for the transition from Blackboard to Learn@FU (based on Moodle) as the central learning platform. 

Please note the following two dates in particular, as they will affect access to your Blackboard courses:

  • As of January 1, 2027, you will only be able to access Blackboard in “read only” mode. 
  • As of March 15, 2027, you will no longer be able to access Blackboard at all (end of license).

Summer semester 2026  

  • Blackboard can be used with no restrictions by instructors and students.

  • A preliminary version of Learn@FU is being made available to faculty and staff as part of a pilot run. Faculty and staff can familiarize themselves with the platform, transfer courses and content from Blackboard that are still needed to Learn@FU, and prepare new Learn@FU courses for the winter semester. FUB-IT is providing support in the form of training sessions and help materials. A pilot teaching program will take place for selected courses.
    Faculty and staff will be able to access Learn@FU starting June 17, 2026: www.learn.fu-berlin.de

Winter semester 2026/27

  • Learn@FU will be fully implemented as the university’s new central LMS. New courses will only be accessible through Learn@FU. 
  • No new courses will be offered in Blackboard. The learning platform will be phased out gradually:
    • Until December 31, 2026: Existing Blackboard courses can still be edited. We strongly recommend that you save any materials you still need from Blackboard elsewhere and/or transfer them to the new LMS by December 31, 2026.
    • As of January 1, 2027: Only limited access to Blackboard courses (read-only) will be possible. The reason for this is the end of support for the Blackboard version (Blackboard Learn Original) used at Freie Universität by the provider Anthology.
    • As of March 15, 2027: you will no longer be able to access Blackboard at all (end of license).

Starting summer semester 2027

  • Learn@FU will be continuously enhanced as the central learning platform by FUB-IT.
  • Blackboard will no longer be available.
